What does Claire Sancelot, the blogger behind Zero Waste Hong Kong/ Kuala Lumpur, think?

Claire Sancelot, the blogger from Zero Waste Hong Kong/ Kuala Lumpur, was so kind to share her opinion on her zero waste lifestyle.

I believe more and more people are interested by this lifestyle, it reflects their personal belief. We all live in just one planet and this planet has limited resources. We also do not just want to be consumer, but have our life more centered around our family/ friends/community. Have more time for cooking together, appreciate being home more often. I would definitely encourage once you free yourself from stuff, it starts with stuff but everything else follows. Your mind is much more free too, you are much more mobile. At the beginning this lifestyle can be a bit more challenging, you have to take time to reorganize your kitchen/ bathroom (declutter etc..) but you should always make sure to stay happy. Every step you take to declutter/ detox your lifestyle should be a pleasure/ relief and not a constraint. We are all different and minimalism/ zero waste is different for everyone, every family. Hong Kong has its challenges for zero waste in the kitchen because the best zero waste food is obviously zero packaging but this kind of food can only be found at the wet market, sadly wet market food is mainly from Mainland China and the food is highly contaminated with pesticides, herbicides. In Europe, USA, Canada local organic farmers have once/ twice a week what is called the Farmers Market this is zero waste/ local and organic so this is wonderful. In HK, I had a wonderful local organic farmer who delivered once a week its products, it was wonderful. But being minimalist in HK is wonderful, their is no temptation of having big living household, our flats are so small, so indirectly it pushes us to be minimalist. I like this minimalist description.
